The 19th Rendezvous with Madness Film Festival features over 25 programs of feature and short films, artist talks, industry events, installations and performance evolving to explore issues of mental illness and addiction across all artistic media as issues of mental health move into the mainstream.
More highlights from this year’s RWM:
- A public screening and panel discussion of Intervention Canada, featuring Series Producer Karen Wookey, Interventionist Andrew Galloway, CAMH Bioethicist Barbara Russel, and subjects from the screened episodes.
- An industry-only event co-produced with the National Film Board of Canada (NFB) featuring an interactive installation at the NFB’s Mediatheque and an evening presentation of new and established documentary approaches to suicide and conversations with filmmakers, academics, journalists and clinicians to explore changing approaches to presenting suicide respectfully and safely.
- An experimental short Canadian film program curated by Award Winning filmmaker Deirdre Logue and Erik Martinson of Vtape, featuring an Artist Talk and work by Canadian Media Artist Jenn E Norton.
- An evening with acclaimed stand-up Comedian Big Daddy Tazz, who brings his reflections on life after mental illness to the festival in a performance followed by a conversation featuring Yuk Yuk’s founder Marc Breslin.
- As part of Rendezvous with Madness’ ongoing youth programming the festival will present the feature documentary Finding Kind in conversation with filmmaker Lauren Parsekian in high-schools across the GTA. Featured in the New York Times, and the Dr. Phil Show, Rendezvous with Madness is proud to present Finding Kind and its associated anti-bullying program free to high-schools with the generous support of the Royal Bank of Canada
In 2011, Rendezvous with Madness will screen over 40 films, of which more than 60% are premieres and more than 60% are by Canadian artists. Additionally, Rendezvous with Madness will feature work by over 100 artists in film, video, multi media, visual arts, performance, sound poetry and music. Rendezvous with Madness continues to bridge the arts and mental health worlds through our post screening panel discussions featuring over 100 panelists from the arts, mental health and consumer survivor communities. In 2011, Rendezvous with Madness is proud to thank it’s more than 40 presenting partners from the arts and mental health fields. As part of our commitment to bring artists to new audiences each Rendezvous with Madness panel discussion will feature one of our presenting filmmakers in person when possible, or since 2009, via internet video conferencing. |
